Can the United States
of America be found in biblical prophecy?

Most of mainstream American Christianity look upon the Bible as an ancient book that speaks about people and nations of a by-gone era. While they look to the book for its moral lessons and its promise of salvation of mankind through belief in Jesus Christ, they claim that it all must be reinterpreted to mesh with the modern world of today. It’s timeless messages of love, mercy, forgiveness, and treating others as you want to be treated are all acknowledged as eternal, but the history and prophecies are pretty much overlooked.

A Pentecostal minister recently commented that the United States is never mentioned in the Bible. He went on to say that all of the end time prophecies apply only to the Middle East and that none of the predicted events of Revelation will happen in America. He implied that Americans will be able to sit peaceably in their living rooms and watch the events unfold on their TV screens just like a spectator sport.

It’s obvious from his viewpoint that he does not know the Bible and that he has no understanding of the prophecies. To say that the United States is not mentioned in the Bible only proves that his eyes have been blinded and he is among those who have been deceived by Satan, the dragon of Revelation (Rev. 12:9).

It is very clear in that scripture that Satan deceives the whole world. The United States is part of the world and it has been just as deceived as any other nation. The end time events are addressed to the whole world, not just the Middle East.

The United States is not mentioned by name, just as most of the other modern nations of today are not mentioned by name. But they are spelled out quite clearly in the Bible and in the prophecies if one has understanding. In fact, the first mention of the United States is found at the very beginning of the Bible in the book of Genesis. When Jacob blessed his sons just before his death, he gave clues to the future of the descendants of each of them.

Two of those sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, were actually the sons of Joseph, who was Jacob’s favored son. Jacob adopted Joseph’s sons as his own and together, for the purposes of the blessings, they represent Joseph. Of all the blessings, that of Joseph and of Judah are the longest and the most involved, offering the most details. (Read the blessings in Gen. 48:13 through Gen. 49:28.)

Ephraim and Manasseh are blessed first and Jacob (also called Israel) set the younger over the older (the firstborn) in the blessing stating that the younger would become greater. Genesis 49:1 clearly states that these blessings were really predictions of “what shall befall you in the last days.” It is clearly referring to the descendants of these men, not the men themselves.

Ephraim is stated to become the greatest. What is the greatest nation on the earth today? The United States. Manasseh is stated to become a multitude of nations. What modern nation has had colonies all the way around the globe? Great Britain.

What son received the blessing of becoming the most fruitful and who would receive the most blessings from God Almighty? Joseph.

Since these predictions are all referring to the last days we have to look at the world as it is today in order to find the descendants of these men. Since we stated earlier that Ephraim and Manasseh are the same as Joseph, the predictions for Joseph really refers to them also. It is undeniable that Great Britain and the United States have received the greatest blessings on the entire globe. North America became the bread basket of the whole world. For a time, Great Britain controlled most of the rest of the world and the seaways and still has ties to Canada and Australia today. There was a time when it was said that the sun never sets on the British Empire.

So where do we find these two countries in the rest of the prophecies but through the prophecies about Ephraim and Manasseh. From beginning to end, the Bible speak of these two, first as two of the twelve tribes of Israel that settled the Promised Land and later as nations. The prophecies about Ephraim that refer to the last days or the Day of the Lord are speaking about the United States of America. Remember, Jacob said that Ephraim would become greater than Manasseh. History shows that even though Great Britain became a great nation, the United States became even greater.

There are some groups who say that Ephraim is Great Britain and Manasseh is the United States. It seems to fit the biblical descriptions of these tribes in the last days better when viewed the other way around, but it doesn’t make a great deal of difference. Both are Joseph and Joseph represents both Great Britain and the United States.

The reason mainstream Christianity today has been blinded to the prophecies about who Ephraim and Manasseh really are is because they think all the references are about the Jews. It is a lack of knowledge and understanding of scripture that has led them to this belief. They lump all references to anything having to do with Israel as being about the Jews.

The Jews are actually only the descendants of Judah. The Lost Ten Tribes of Israel are still lost to mainstream Christianity. The truth about the lost tribes has been available to the world for the past 200 years, but Christianity refuses to accept it. Even when irrefutable evidence is placed before them they still refuse to see it. Two thousand years of anti-semitism clouds their eyes and stops up their ears.

One of the blessings for Judah was that the scepter would never depart from him (Gen. 49:10). The scepter refers to kingship. Christ will return as King of kings and Lord of lords. When he returns he will establish the kingdom of God on earth and he will reign as king over it. Jesus was a descendant of the tribe of Judah. He was a Jew and when he returns he will still be a descendant of Judah and he will bring all the descendants of Jacob and all of the Gentiles together under one kingdom. All of the descendants of Jacob includes the Lost Ten Tribes as well.

To most of the world the Lost Ten Tribes are still lost today, but in the very near future they will be lost no longer. God knows where they are and he will bring them all out of hiding and the whole world will know them.

But before that day happens, there are many prophecies that must be fulfilled concerning them. We are in the midst of many of those prophecies today. Those with understanding will see and believe. The rest will all be caught by surprise.
